            This is BUCK  dob 12/03/13
Buck devoloped a serious eye infection,
           just after his 1st birthday.
I am trying to save his life.
BUCK, just after having his eye removed.
The eye was sent to a lab to be tested,
to see what caused such a severe eye infection.
The eye infection was found to be caused by
                                               Blastomycosis.
Blasto is a serious, non hereditary disease,
caused by a fungus in the soil.
It is also deadly and expensive to treat.
Buck is not defined by this disease.
He is a sweet, loving, affectionate boy, and we love him.
Here he is, using his cone to cover Ginger,
                            to swipe the antler.
Did I mention Buck was smart?
Buck also has a sense of humor.

   When Ginger kept stealing
                  his bunny,

Buck just put his paw on
top of her, and took it back.

        Ginger was not pleased,
but I thought it was hystercal.
         Buck above at 8 wks.
    Buck could be sitting pretty,
then take off running to play
             in a split second.
He loved to play with others,
        no matter how different
               they may look.
         Everyone is his friend.
Pictured left is Buck,
      5 months old.
Buck is not one to sit still.
When he saw a good game of
       chase, especially with toys,
he would launch himself in a fast                  ground covering stride.
Most often, Buck would catch it,
play keep away for a while,
then go play with his "prize."

Updated 1/11/2015
Here is the latest update on Buck and Striker. Got the results from Buck's blood test. The lab said it was positive .2, below the limit to quantify. I don't know what that means, but the vet called a specialist and we will have to start him on 3 months of medication. It is called itraconazole, 100 mg, 2 pills once a day. The meds aren't too bad, but the expense will be the checkups which will include xrays, blood and urinary test, physical examinations, and possibly sonograms to check internal organs. This will be the expensive part as I have no choice than to go to a specialist because it seems that no vets know enough about Blastomycosis. 3 Vets all told me to go to a specialist.

On going treatment will last 3 months, then monthly check ups, with a 15 to 25% change of a relapse. Send lots of prayers and good thoughts this way.

On the other hand, the good news is Striker's lungs and blood test is negative. I'm including a pic of Striker this time. He was about 16/17 months old, as well as the rest of our canine family.

Thanks to all who have graciously made donations to help with the vet bills, and all those who have sent good thoughts my way.

Thanks, Pat Shaw
Striker, 16/17 months old.
Negative for Blasto!  Yay!
Bucky & Striker update, & the rest of the family,
that needs to be tested for Blasto.

Buck has been on his medication since 1/3/2015, & so  far seems to be doing pretty well.  He was off his food for a day or two, but his appetite has returned to normal.  He has an occasional "huff" type cough, but just a couple of times a day.  His spirits are still good.  He has learned to steal most of the toys and lay with them.  The blue whale still his favorite.  He is bored and is dying to go outside and play with the other dogs.  In about a week, weather permiting, I'll let him play a short while with one of the others.
